The figure is the interlayer gauge in inches. .090" equals 2.28 mm. PVB, polyvinyl butyral, is the plastic that bonds the two lites.
Lites go in sixteenths of an inch and interlayers in thousandths. The inch total is the sum rounded to the nearest 1/16", marked nom. The metric total is exact: 3 + 2.28 + 3 = 8.28 mm. Quote from the metric line when you need the true thickness.
Annealed glass cools slowly and keeps low residual stress, so it can be cut after it is made. Tempered glass is heated and quenched. It is stronger but cannot be cut afterward, so every size must be final before tempering.
When the lites crack, the interlayer holds the fragments and keeps the opening closed under wind pressure. Gauge and type change that behavior. SGP is stiffer than PVB, which is why some systems specify it.
A Miami-Dade NOA approves a tested window or door assembly, not loose glass. Your approval names the glass makeup, and the supplied glass has to match it. We can provide documentation for your file on request.
Each lite carries a mark etched by the laminator, with the interlayer, the standard and the approval. Your product approval says which marks the glass must show, so check it before you order.
